This strategic pivot follows a period where previous frameworks, including the Arab Maghreb Union, Nepad, and an association agreement with the European Union, did not provide sustainable long-term perspectives. While Europe remains a source for industrial equipment and a market for hydrocarbon exports, the country's public authorities have now firmly prioritized the African continent for economic development and integration.

The implementation of this strategy involves several concrete initiatives aimed at fostering regional economic ties. Efforts include the diversification of exports, with a focus on products such as rebar, cement, and home appliances. Concurrently, Algeria is developing its infrastructure and logistics capabilities, which include increasing air and maritime routes. Significant progress is being made on the Trans-Saharan Road, with extensions planned to neighboring countries like Chad and Mali, alongside the continued development of the Lagos-Alger gas pipeline via Niger. Furthermore, national operators are being encouraged to establish permanent presence in other African countries, building on successful experiences in Mauritania and Senegal, and the opening of Algerian bank branches in selected partner nations.

Algerian diplomacy has been actively engaged in supporting this economic vision. Algerian diplomats have maintained a visible presence in international forums, holding discussions with their African counterparts on issues of mutual interest and proposing collaborative solutions. This diplomatic push has led to tangible partnerships, notably with Niger, where agreements have been signed for energy projects. These include the realization and inauguration of a power plant, with Sonatrach and Sonelgaz establishing operations in the country. Nigerien personnel are also being invited to undertake training at Algerian universities and vocational centers.

Similar partnerships are developing with Chad, which is exploring Algeria's energy offers, including an immediate power plant and future projects for electricity production, distribution, and hydrocarbon exploration. Mali, a geographical and historical neighbor, is also prioritizing energy needs, with Algeria affirming its commitment to support these requirements. Additionally, the development of the western corridor road extension, linking Tindouf to the port of Nouadhibou in Mauritania and continuing towards Dakar, signifies the comprehensive effort to establish a vast new economic pole across the region.

Algeria is implementing a new economic strategy focused on establishing itself as a continental economic hub, expanding its influence and partnerships across Africa.
