Algeria<\/a> is actively strengthening its energy cooperation, undertaking significant initiatives with partners from both Saudi Arabia and South Africa<\/a>. These efforts, led by the Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, aim to consolidate strategic relationships and enhance resource optimization. In a recent meeting in Algiers, Minister Arkab received Turki bin Saeed Al Amri, the Executive President of Saudi Abunayyan Holding, to discuss partnership opportunities, particularly in sea water desalination equipment. This engagement underscores a commitment to fortify the existing fraternal and cooperative relations between Algeria and Saudi Arabia, building upon previous discussions regarding investment<\/a> in desalination and related industrial equipment, which supports Algeria\u2019s national desalination program.<\/p>\n

Abunayyan Holding presented proposals to expand and consolidate its investment and industrial presence in Algeria, expressing interest in establishing an industrial center for assembly and maintenance of desalination equipment. This center would support strategic projects and provide local technical and logistical services. Furthermore, the Saudi group indicated its willingness to create a branch of its Energy and Water Academy in Algeria. This academy would facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity building in the management and operation of desalination plants, complementing efforts to localize membrane technology<\/a> and basic equipment industries. Minister Arkab welcomed these initiatives, highlighting their alignment with governmental directives to increase national integration, localize vital industries, and create sustainable employment opportunities, assuring the sector's full support through the Algerian Desalination Company and other relevant bodies.<\/p>\n

Concurrently, Algeria is deepening its energy ties with South Africa. Medjelled Miloud, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, received a South African oil sector delegation in Algeria, signaling a renewed push to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the two nations. The delegation included officials from the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum, along with representatives from the South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC) and the South African Petroleum Agency (PASA). This visit aligns with a strategic vision to reinforce South-South cooperation and consolidate the robust historical and strategic partnership between the two countries, following up on the state visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Algeria and official discussions between Minister Arkab and his South African counterpart.<\/p>\n

The week-long visit for the South African delegation involves intensive working meetings and technical exchange workshops with key Algerian hydrocarbon institutions, including Sonatrach<\/a>, ALNAFT, the Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority (ARH), and the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP). Discussions are set to cover major areas of cooperation across the hydrocarbon value chain, encompassing research, exploration, field development, refining, petrochemicals, and the marketing of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Opportunities for establishing a strategic and commercial partnership between Sonatrach and SANPC are also on the agenda.
