A significant upcoming event, the Algerian-American Energy Forum, is scheduled for October 15 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Organized by the Algerian-American Business Council, this forum aims to advance the development of Algeria's gas sector. High-level Algerian representation will include the Ministers of Hydrocarbons, Mines, Energy and Renewable Energies, alongside the CEOs of Sonatrach and Alnaft, to review progress, discuss sector improvements, and identify crucial next steps toward concluding new hydrocarbon contracts.

These intensified discussions are centered on new investments within Algeria's gas upstream. The objective is to translate the expressed interest from both parties into tangible investment projects. Algeria presents compelling advantages for such ventures, including substantial geological potential, a strategic geographical position near the European market, well-developed energy infrastructure, and extensive experience in gas production and export. The scope of cooperation is broadening to encompass the development of two previously unexploited reserves, and notably, the exploration of unconventional hydrocarbons and offshore areas, aligning with Algeria's strategic imperative to accelerate resource renewal and maintain its production capacities in the medium and long term.

This strategic rapprochement between Sonatrach and the American majors is underpinned by significant high-level US diplomatic support. During a recent visit to Algiers, Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Africa and Arab Affairs, reaffirmed Washington's strong emphasis on developing economic and energy relations with Algeria. Following meetings with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Sonatrach CEO Noureddine Daoudi, it was clear that the US seeks to enhance the presence of its major energy companies in the Algerian market. For Washington, Algeria is recognized as a vital energy partner in the Mediterranean and Africa, while Algiers views increased American presence as a means to diversify the technological and financial partnerships essential for developing new resources. This convergence of interests is a key driver behind the accelerated pace of these important negotiations.

Algeria’s Sonatrach continues high-level discussions with American energy giants Chevron and ExxonMobil, focusing on new investments in the nation’s vital gas upstream.
