Algeria<\/a> is preparing for what is projected to be the fastest growth in installed renewable capacity across Africa<\/a>, with an annual compound rate of 42.51% anticipated between 2026 and 2031. This expansion is primarily driven by the development of solar projects and green hydrogen initiatives, according to projections from the Energy platform, citing a recent report by Mordor Intelligence. The country aims to significantly increase its renewable energy footprint in the coming years.<\/p>\n

To achieve these targets, Algeria is advancing several key projects, including the preparation of a solar tender for a capacity of one gigawatt. Furthermore, plans for green hydrogen development are being aligned with Sonatrach<\/a>'s export network. Earlier this year, two new solar power plants totaling 400 megawatts were inaugurated. These installations mark the first phase of an ambitious national program designed to elevate solar capacity to 3200 megawatts, substantially increasing it from the current approximately 600 megawatts.<\/p>\n
