These initiatives are integral to the national public investment program for 2026, aiming to establish the road network as a vital circulatory system for the national economy. Supervised by the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, the comprehensive approach includes creating new routes, duplicating saturated lanes, and undertaking extensive rehabilitation of existing sections. This extensive undertaking seeks to enhance the nation's logistical competitiveness, facilitate access to border areas, and expand trans-Saharan trade.

A significant portion of this modernization, specifically 419 kilometers or over 80% of the total, is dedicated to integrating Saharan territories, concentrated within the southern wilayas of Djanet, El Meniaa, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar. Projects in Djanet, such as the 190-kilometer axis connecting Bordj El Haouas to In Aflahlah and 60 kilometers of heavy rehabilitation on RN3, are designed to open up remote localities and bolster local economies. In El Meniaa, the rehabilitation of RN1 reinforces a crucial backbone of national transportation. Further west, the 150-kilometer modernization of RN6 between Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Timiaouine is poised to advance economic integration with Mali and the African Continental Free Trade Area, with future logistics platforms, cold storage, and advanced customs posts expected to accelerate commercial flows.

In the northern regions and High Plateaus, the focus shifts to alleviating traffic congestion and preserving existing road infrastructure. Lane doubling projects on RN16 in Souk Ahras (17 km) and RN23 in Tiaret (12 km) are set to improve the fluidity of heavy transport and secure trade between agricultural production zones and major urban consumption centers. Additionally, targeted reinforcement operations covering 56.6 kilometers in Boumerdès, El Bayadh, Batna, and Bouira utilize preventive techniques, including surface milling, grave-bitume application, and high-density asphalt concrete wearing courses. These measures are designed to avert structural degradation of road foundations, thereby preventing more costly full reconstructions and ensuring the long-term efficiency of Algeria's essential road network.

Algeria is rapidly advancing its land infrastructure with 12 strategic road projects covering 516.6 kilometers across nine wilayas.
