A delegation of 11 German companies is undertaking an exploratory mission in Algeria<\/a> to investigate cooperation and investment<\/a> opportunities in green hydrogen, Power-to-X technologies, renewable energies, and energy storage. The visit, organized by the German-Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, spans from September 21 to 25 and includes engagements in both Algeria and Tunisia. The first phase of the mission is taking place in Algiers, involving a high-level Business Breakfast with government representatives, energy companies, financial institutions, and research sector entities, alongside direct meetings with potential market partners.<\/p>\n

The German firms are focusing on various segments of the hydrogen value chain, including electrolysis, water treatment and desalination, storage, compression, industrial equipment, pipeline reconversion, materials, engineering, certification, and feasibility studies. This exploration goes beyond mere commercial transactions, aiming to facilitate partnerships that could lead to the localization of industries and equipment, establishing a production base within Algeria. Experts suggest this German interest is linked to shifts in the European energy landscape, driving Berlin to seek new energy sources and partners, with Algeria identified as a key player due to its geographical position and energy capabilities.<\/p>\n

Algeria possesses significant natural and geographical advantages, such as vast desert areas and extensive solar resources, which can be leveraged for renewable electricity production essential for electrolysis facilities. The SoutH2 corridor is particularly significant, as it aims to connect North Africa<\/a> with European markets via Italy and Austria to Germany. Discussions have included the potential repurposing of existing gas infrastructure for hydrogen transport, which could reduce infrastructure costs.
