Following its Article IV consultation with <a class=\"dzsl-auto-link dzsl-internal\" data-dzsl=\"internal\" href=\"https:\/\/dzwatch.dz\/?cat=1\">Algeria<\/a>, concluded on September 11, the IMF reported significant economic expansion, with growth projected at 3.9% for 2025. This builds upon 3.7% growth observed in 2024 and is bolstered by a strategy centered on public investment.<\/p>\n<p>The non-hydrocarbon sector notably recorded 4.3% growth in 2025, with expectations for it to reach 4% in 2026, underscoring ongoing economic diversification efforts. The IMF anticipates generally positive near-term economic prospects, with overall growth expected to remain strong at 3.8% in 2026. The institution also highlighted that rising hydrocarbon prices are poised to stimulate exports and budgetary revenues, creating an opportunity to rebuild &quot;safety margins.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Further projections indicate a rise in exports from 15.8% of Gross Domestic Product in 2025 to 19.3% in 2026, while imports are expected to decline from 21.9% to 18.5% over the same period. The budget deficit decreased in 2025, aided by significant exceptional transfers from state-owned companies and the <a class=\"dzsl-auto-link dzsl-external\" data-dzsl=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bank-of-algeria.dz\/a-propos\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bank of Algeria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF also commended Algeria&#39;s commitment to enhancing financial stability and inclusion. The country&#39;s banks maintain strong liquidity, profitability, and sufficient capitalization. The IMF acknowledged the importance of measures aimed at strengthening banking supervision, crisis and liquidity management mechanisms, and improving the governance of public banks.
