Thirteen Italian<\/a> agricultural companies are scheduled to arrive in Algiers on September 28 and 29 for discussions focused on mechanization, innovation, and digitalization within the agricultural sector. Organized by the Italian Agency for Promotion Abroad and Internationalization of Italian Companies (ICE) in collaboration with FederUnacoma, the Italian Federation of Agricultural Machine Manufacturers, the visit will include an institutional session featuring Italy's Ambassador to Algeria<\/a>, Alessandra Schiavo, before business-to-business meetings at the El Aurassi Hotel.<\/p>\n

The visiting delegation comprises companies specializing in agricultural technologies and equipment, with exchanges set to cover a broad range of topics. These discussions will encompass critical areas such as soil cultivation, smart irrigation, crop protection, livestock management, cereal cultivation, viticulture, arboriculture, and olive oil processing. The program also includes visits to agricultural farms on September 29, providing practical insights and opportunities for collaboration.<\/p>\n

This mission marks a significant step in reinforcing cooperation between Algeria and Italy, promising to introduce Italian technologies, equipment, and expertise crucial for the modernization of Algeria's agricultural sector. The initiative aligns with Algeria's ongoing efforts to reform its agriculture, aiming to enhance yields, optimize land use, and reduce imports, thereby advancing towards greater food self-sufficiency. This is further supported by the current preparation of a new agricultural orientation law, intended to review management and production mechanisms.<\/p>\n

The upcoming visit complements existing strong bilateral agricultural ties, exemplified by the significant agricultural investment<\/a> project underway in Timimoun. This partnership involves the Italian group Bonifiche Ferraresi and Algeria's National Investment Fund, developing cereal production across 36,000 hectares. A first wheat harvest campaign, launched in May, successfully covered 1,600 hectares, with a targeted yield of 60 quintals per hectare for the upcoming season.
