This initiative, titled &quot;Support for the normative framework governing organic agriculture and labeling,&quot; aims to elevate Algerian regulatory standards and certifications to meet demanding international requirements. Funded entirely by the European Union, the program is designed to enhance Algeria&#39;s capacity to export organic agricultural products, particularly to the lucrative European market.<\/p>\n<p>Spanning a period of 24 months, the project will directly benefit the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, operating in close collaboration with French and Italian counterparts. This institutional twinning mechanism facilitates the direct transfer of expert knowledge and aims to strengthen institutional capabilities, modernize administrative procedures, and harmonize Algeria&#39;s regulatory framework with global agricultural trade standards. The partnership focuses on two primary areas: establishing a recognized biological certification system and enhancing the value of specific local products through the Agricultural Quality Label.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union stands as the world&#39;s leading importer of organic agricultural goods, presenting a significant opportunity for Algerian producers. New EU regulations on organic agriculture, effective since January 2022, have intensified control requirements for imported products, underscoring the critical need for a robust national certification system. While Algeria&#39;s presence in the organic sector has historically been modest, with only 4,103 hectares dedicated to organic farming in 2024 and limited exports, this joint European-Algerian program offers a clear roadmap.
