Construction work has officially commenced for a new raw phosphate enrichment and transformation plant at the Bled El Hadba pole in Tebessa. The launch ceremony was overseen by Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab<\/a>, alongside a high-level delegation including Minister of Mines and Mining Industries Mourad Hanifi, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Ghelaoui, and the Wali of Tebessa, Ahmed Belhadad. This pivotal facility is designed to enrich raw phosphate and enhance its quality before it is moved to chemical transformation units located in Oued El Kebrit, Souk Ahras.<\/p>\n

The Bled El Hadba site is the foundational link in Algeria<\/a>'s integrated phosphate project<\/a> value chain, leveraging its substantial mineral reserves. The plant is engineered to process significant quantities of raw material, with the mine expected to extract approximately 10.5 million tons of raw phosphate annually. Operations at the facility are projected to yield about 5.5 million tons of marketable enriched phosphate each year, in addition to 3.2 million tons of concentrated phosphate, which will serve as primary feedstock for the chemical transformation complex in Oued El Kebrit.<\/p>\n

This development aligns with a comprehensive national strategy to move beyond the export of raw natural resources towards extensive local industrialization, integrating extraction with enrichment and chemical transformation. The integrated system is set to bolster national agricultural self-sufficiency by ensuring a stable supply of various agricultural fertilizers. Furthermore, the project is anticipated to significantly increase the added value of national resources, diversify exports beyond hydrocarbons, and stimulate economic activity in eastern Algeria by creating thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities. It also aims to facilitate the transfer of modern technology<\/a> and foster the development of national expertise in mining and processing industries.<\/p>\n

Minister Arkab's oversight of the project has been continuous, following his inauguration of the phosphate mine at Bled El Hadba in November 2024, when he also inspected the plant site. During his recent visit, the Minister assessed the progress of the construction of the valorization and transformation units, issuing directives to accelerate the pace of work to ensure production commences within the established timelines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
