The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research<\/a> has directed university establishments in six Algerian<\/a> cities to extend pedagogical, scientific, and entrepreneurial activities until 9 PM. This new programming is set to be implemented initially in institutions located in Algiers, Constantine, Oran, Tlemcen, Annaba, and Ouargla, as part of preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year. A recent correspondence to regional university conference presidents underscores the need for concerned institutions to take necessary steps, including coordinating with university works services to adapt transport schedules for affected students.<\/p>\n

This initiative aims to optimize the utilization of pedagogical and scientific infrastructure while strengthening the overall educational, scientific, and cultural dynamics within campuses. Key spaces such as central libraries, thesis defense rooms, teaching halls, amphitheaters, digital areas, and computer rooms will remain accessible until 9 PM. The expanded schedule also covers structures dedicated to entrepreneurship and innovation, including university incubators, technology<\/a> support centers, manufacturing laboratories, artificial intelligence houses, scientific research laboratories, and intensive language teaching centers.<\/p>\n

The extended hours are designed to enable students to further their projects, particularly in entrepreneurship, and to provide teachers and researchers with more time to utilize laboratories and scientific equipment for their research and innovation endeavors. The measure followed consultations with relevant sectors and services, and was presented at the National Conference of Universities on July 25, 2026.
