The European Union<\/a> has initiated a new project in Algeria<\/a>, committing one million euros to bolster the nation's organic agriculture<\/a> sector and establish recognized quality labels. This two-year endeavor, spearheaded by Italy through its Ministry of Agriculture (MASAF), also features the participation of the French Ministry of Agriculture as a partner. The project provides institutional support to Algeria's Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, fostering direct exchange between public administrations. The launch event took place at the National Chamber of Agriculture, attended by ambassadors from the EU, Italy, and France, alongside various producers and national and international organizations.<\/p>\n

The initiative is structured around two primary objectives. The first aims to strengthen Algeria's national organic agriculture system. Experts involved in the project will collaborate with Algerian authorities to develop and refine norms and regulatory texts, delineate responsibilities among different bodies, and establish robust control and certification procedures. Additionally, training programs are planned for agents responsible for the daily operation of this enhanced system, further solidifying the regulatory framework and improving oversight.<\/p>\n

The second key objective focuses on establishing a Quality Agricultural Label (LAQ). This involves working with producers to define specific characteristics and requirements for products across five pilot sectors. These criteria will then be integrated into five detailed specifications, which will subsequently be submitted to the national labeling commission for approval. The effort will engage a wide range of stakeholders, including producers, processors, agricultural chambers, and technical organizations.
