Algeria<\/a>'s Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life is actively working to integrate a crucial health dimension into the national digital platform for early warning and pre-monitoring of climate change. This initiative, undertaken in coordination with relevant national bodies, aims to establish a comprehensive environmental system designed for prevention and adaptation to climate-related challenges. Minister Kawthar Kirikou highlighted that this proactive approach is part of national efforts to enhance the digital system for data exchange and develop scientific indicators that support informed decision-making, particularly through the development of an integrated climate and health early warning system.<\/p>\n

The integration of public health considerations is deemed vital for improving the anticipation and response to risks associated with climate change, especially those with direct health implications. According to Minister Kirikou, climate change is no longer solely an environmental issue but a complex challenge that directly impacts the health security of citizens. This strategic direction aligns with Algeria's commitment to implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development<\/a> Goals and contributes to the Nationally Determined Contributions, which prioritize public health within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.<\/p>\n

Further underscoring the national commitment, Minister of Health, Mohamed Al-Siddiq Ait Massoudan, emphasized the serious repercussions of climate change on population health and the resilience of the health sector, highlighting the importance of prevention. The health sector is focused on strengthening surveillance, vigilance, and readiness of health institutions. In a significant step, an agreement is planned between the Ministry of Health, the National Health Security Agency, and the Algerian Space Agency to leverage space and geo-spatial technology<\/a>. This collaboration will utilize satellite imagery, remote sensing, and geographic information systems to monitor environmental factors, identify vulnerable areas, develop advanced early warning mechanisms, create health maps, and optimize resource distribution and planning for enhanced public protection.<\/p>\n

Kamal Sanhadji, Head of the National Health Security Agency, reinforced that climate change represents a strategic challenge to human health and community health security, necessitating a shift from reactive risk response to proactive anticipation, prevention, and preparedness. This requires a multi-sectoral approach encompassing environment, health, agriculture, and water resources. The agency plays a key role<\/a> in this by establishing a joint inter-sectoral coordination body for epidemiological vigilance and implementing the national health security strategy.
