New York \u2013 Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf chaired a meeting today in New York for the A3+ group, which comprises the three African countries holding non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting reaffirmed the group’s commitment to maintaining regular consultations and close coordination on various issues on the Security Council\u2019s agenda. The ministers also discussed ways to strengthen this consultative mechanism, making it more effective and cohesive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement added that this meeting is part of preparations for the upcoming “High-Level Oran Conference on Peace and Security in Africa,” scheduled for early December. The creation of the A3 group is seen as one of the key achievements of the “Oran Process,” which was initiated over a decade ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The A3 group currently includes Algeria, Sierra Leone, and Mozambique, along with Guyana from the Caribbean, which has long-standing solidarity ties with Africa. Additionally, Somalia participated in the meeting, as it is set to join the UN Security Council in January 2025, replacing Mozambique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
