New York (United Nations)<\/strong> \u2013 The United Nations has issued a stark warning about the depletion of essential supplies in the Gaza Strip, which continues to suffer under relentless Zionist aggression. The UN has called on all nations to use their influence to ensure adherence to international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council<\/strong> on Wednesday\u2014convened at the request of Algeria to address the “situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question”\u2014Joyce Msuya, UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, described the dire conditions in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The level of suffering in Gaza defies description. The reality on the ground worsens day by day as relentless bombing and fierce fighting continue, while essential supplies are withheld from people\u2019s reach,” Msuya said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She underscored the critical importance of respecting international humanitarian law<\/strong> and urged the Security Council and all member states to leverage their influence to ensure compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Civilians at Risk, Essential Supplies Depleting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Msuya stressed the need to protect civilians, meet their basic needs\u2014whether they remain in their homes or are displaced\u2014and facilitate humanitarian operations. She also highlighted the importance of safeguarding hospitals and medical personnel<\/strong> amid the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between October 2 and October 15<\/strong>, no food aid entered northern Gaza<\/strong>, and only small quantities<\/strong> were allowed through, which are now quickly running out, Msuya reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urgent Call for Humanitarian Access<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Scott Anderson, Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator and Deputy Director of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, emphasized the urgent need for a conducive environment<\/strong> to allow the entry of aid at a sufficient scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that 250 to 300 trucks per day are required in southern Gaza<\/strong>, while 30 to 40 trucks are needed daily in the north<\/strong>. However, since September 30<\/strong>, only 12 food trucks<\/strong> have managed to reach northern Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anderson added that 100,000 metric tons of food<\/strong>\u2014enough to sustain the population for three to four months<\/strong>\u2014are currently stocked by the World Food Programme (WFP) and UNRWA, but these supplies are being held up due to the lack of access. “The supplies are ready, and the preparations are in place, but unfortunately, the environment is not conducive to their entry,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rising Death Toll in Gaza<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Palestinian health authorities reported on Wednesday that the death toll from the ongoing Zionist aggression<\/strong>\u2014which began on October 7, 2023<\/strong>\u2014has reached 42,409 martyrs<\/strong>, with 99,153 injured<\/strong>, most of whom are women and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
