The appeal was made during a <strong>UN Security Council session<\/strong> held on Thursday, where Algeria also reiterated its demand for an <strong>immediate and lasting ceasefire<\/strong> in both conflict zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Algeria\u2019s <strong>Permanent Representative to the United Nations<\/strong>, Ambassador <strong>Amar Benjamaa<\/strong>, expressed profound concern over the dire humanitarian situation. &#8220;Words cannot adequately describe the atrocities and daily horrors endured by Palestinians, especially women. We renew our call for an <strong>immediate and permanent ceasefire<\/strong> in <strong>Gaza<\/strong> and <strong>Lebanon<\/strong> to ensure the protection of all civilians, especially the most vulnerable, in accordance with international law,&#8221; Benjamaa stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>International Responsibility to Protect Women and Children<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In his intervention during the <strong>UN Security Council debate on &#8220;Women, Peace, and Security,&#8221;<\/strong> Benjamaa stressed the need for global efforts to safeguard the lives of women and children affected by armed conflicts. He highlighted the <strong>severe impact<\/strong> of the ongoing Israeli assault on women in Gaza, with widespread violations of their basic rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The aggression in Gaza has inflicted unimaginable suffering on women,&#8221; Benjamaa noted. &#8220;Of the <strong>42,000 Palestinians killed<\/strong> in Gaza, <strong>14,000 were children<\/strong>, and over <strong>10,000 were women<\/strong>,&#8221; he added, condemning these atrocities as <strong>flagrant violations of international humanitarian law<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Promoting Accountability and Inclusion in Conflict Resolution<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Benjamaa also emphasized the importance of <strong>holding perpetrators accountable<\/strong> for violating humanitarian norms and women\u2019s rights in conflict areas. &#8220;The international community must take concrete measures to <strong>strengthen accountability<\/strong> and impose <strong>sanctions on actors<\/strong> who disregard international humanitarian law,&#8221; he urged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Algerian diplomat advocated for a <strong>collaborative approach<\/strong> involving the <strong>United Nations, regional organizations, and civil society<\/strong> to enhance women\u2019s roles in peacebuilding and conflict resolution through <strong>partnerships and cooperation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gender Equality and Empowerment in Conflict Contexts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Benjamaa stressed the need to <strong>promote gender equality<\/strong> and develop comprehensive national programs aimed at <strong>empowering and protecting women<\/strong>, particularly in <strong>digital environments<\/strong> and during armed conflicts.
