Algiers hosted an international symposium on Emir Abdelkader titled “In the Presence of the Nation’s Heroes: Historical, Civilizational, and Cultural Dimensions of Emir Abdelkader.”<\/em> The event, held under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was organized by the Ministry of Mujahideen and Rights Holders in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other governmental bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the symposium, Josh Pope, Mayor of Elkader, Iowa, a U.S. city named after Emir Abdelkader, expressed pride in the connection between his city and the renowned Algerian hero. In his address, Mayor Pope conveyed warm greetings of peace and friendship on behalf of Elkader\u2019s residents, particularly as Algeria commemorates the 70th anniversary of the liberation revolution and the 192nd anniversary of Emir Abdelkader’s first oath of allegiance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are honored to bear the name of such a noble and courageous figure whose humanitarian principles and pursuit of peace remain timeless,” Pope stated. He highlighted the official twinning between Elkader and Mascara, Algeria, established in 1984. This relationship, he emphasized, provides a foundation for fostering cultural exchanges, educational visits, and collaborative initiatives between the cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Pope called for strengthening ties between Elkader and Algerian cities to further Emir Abdelkader’s legacy of coexistence, trust, and mutual understanding. “His vision serves as a model for the world on how cultures can live in harmony,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
