Algiers – The Algerian Press Service (APS) launched on Wednesday its new English-language news ticker, marking a strategic step toward strengthening the country’s media presence abroad and amplifying Algeria’s voice on the international stage.
The launch was inaugurated by the agency’s Director General, Samir Gaid, who transmitted the first news dispatch in English, officially activating this new service. He stressed that the initiative reflects the national policy outlined by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to expand the international reach of Algerian media and enhance its role as a credible source of information.
According to Gaid, the ticker is the result of “a long collective effort by a dedicated team” and will allow APS to provide real-time news in English, the world’s most widely used language. He explained that this falls within a broader modernization plan aimed at aligning APS with the global shift of news agencies toward more integrated “comprehensive media” models.
This launch follows the unveiling of the agency’s revamped website last week, now available in six languages: Arabic, Amazigh, English, French, Spanish, and Russian. Entirely developed by APS’s own talents, the website incorporates cutting-edge technologies and the highest levels of cybersecurity, further reinforcing President Tebboune’s strategic vision for safeguarding Algeria’s digital sovereignty.
APS currently manages over a dozen digital modernization projects, with the objective of providing reliable and innovative news services tailored to the evolving needs of subscribers and the demanding global media environment.
On the goals behind this English-language ticker, Gaid highlighted its crucial role in showcasing Algeria’s domestic developments to international audiences and securing a stronger presence for Algerian journalism in global media exchanges. “The most advanced international news exchanges are carried out in English, and this platform will put APS on equal footing with the world’s leading agencies,” he noted.
A specialized team of English-proficient journalists trained in international reporting has been mobilized to operate the ticker around the clock, with a focus on geopolitical and strategic issues. Gaid emphasized that this will project Algeria’s leadership, its principled positions, and its unwavering presence in international forums.
The APS ticker will provide subscribers with up-to-date coverage in key fields such as diplomacy, politics, economics, and culture. With this tool, APS reaffirms its mission to deliver fast, accurate, and credible news while embracing modern technologies that close the gap between reliable information and global audiences.
