Mohammed VI addressed the nation and emphasized that his country supports the Palestinian position of establishing an “independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.” He also mentioned that the borders with Algeria should be opened.

In his speech on Saturday evening, marking 24 years since his ascension to the throne, Mohammed VI stated that the kingdom’s seriousness in addressing the territorial issue led to “Morocco’s recognition of its southern regions – the latest being Israel’s – and the opening of consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla (cities in Western Sahara).” He further highlighted Morocco’s firm position regarding the Palestinian issue and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring security and stability for all peoples in the region.

King Mohammed VI also addressed the tensions between Morocco and Algeria, stating, “In recent months, there have been questions about the relations between Morocco and Algeria, and they are stable relations. We hope they will improve. We emphasize to our brothers in Algeria that Morocco has never been a source of harm, and we attach great importance to cultivating a relationship of love and friendship between our peoples. We pray that the borders will be opened between neighboring countries and brothers.”

This speech marks the first time King Mohammed VI has publicly acknowledged Israel’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. The king emphasized Morocco’s commitment to resolving the territorial issue and its support for Palestinian rights while also expressing hopes for improved relations with Algeria.
