DZWatch Privacy Policy

DZWatch is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains which personal data we process when you visit our website or use our services, why we process it and how long we keep it, in accordance with Law No. 18-07 of 10 June 2018 on the protection of natural persons in the processing of personal data.

What data do we process, and for how long?

Email address and name of readers: used for your reader account and the newsletter. Kept until your account is deleted.
Email address of newsletter subscribers without an account: used to send the newsletter. Kept until you unsubscribe.
Email address given with a comment: used to moderate comments; it is never published. Kept as long as the comment.
Messages sent with the contact form: forwarded to our team by email; they are not stored on the website.
IP address fingerprints (salted hashes of the IP addresses of comments and forms): used to prevent abuse. Kept 30 days.
Server logs, with the IP address in clear: used for the security and operation of the website. Kept 30 days.
Audit log: used for the security of the website. Kept 1 year.
API log: used to operate the website. Kept 90 days.
Audience statistics: used to measure the audience of the website, without cookies; the statistics keep no IP address in clear. Kept 2 years.
Backups: encrypted copies of the database and files, used to restore the website after an incident, kept on our server. Kept 14 days. Each week, a copy of the latest encrypted backup is also kept outside the server.

Audience statistics

We measure the audience of the website with Umami, served by our own website. It sets no cookie and respects the “Do Not Track” setting of your browser. It counts the pages viewed, the reading time of articles and the clicks on the share buttons.

Cookies

The website sets no advertising or audience cookie. It only uses: the session cookie of signed-in readers (valid 30 days, renewed at each use) and a marker cookie without any secret that shows you are signed in; the language cookie, set for 1 year when you change the language of the website; and, when the browser storage is unavailable, a cookie that limits the advertising pop-up to once a day.

Your choices

From your reader account, you can download your data (profile, saved articles, preferences, comments) and delete your account. Deleting your account removes your profile and your saved articles and unsubscribes you from the newsletter; your published comments remain, with their name, but are no longer linked to your account.
From your reader account, you can also correct your display name and the language of the website; for any other correction, contact us.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with the link included in each email.
You can contact us to request access to your personal information or to have it deleted.

How do we protect your information?

We use a variety of security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make any changes, we will post the updated privacy policy on our website.
