Algeria Launches Project for Virus Research Center, Vaccine Plant

Algiers – Algeria has initiated a major project to establish a national center for virus research and a vaccine production plant, signaling a significant step towards bolstering the nation’s health security.

The Minister of Health, Professor Mohamed Sidik Ait Messoudane, and the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Dr. Wassim Kouideri, oversaw the inauguration of a multi-sectoral national task force dedicated to overseeing this strategic project. The task force, comprised of 22 experts and representatives from key sectors including National Defense, Health, Pharmaceutical Industry, Industry, Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the National Agency for Health Security, reflects the comprehensive nature of this national endeavor.

The primary responsibility of this task force is to monitor the project’s implementation across various stages, encompassing scientific, technical, organizational, and industrial aspects. The ultimate goal is to establish a robust national foundation for research, development, and vaccine production that aligns with international standards.

This ambitious project aims to enhance Algeria’s health sovereignty by ensuring self-sufficiency in vaccine production, supporting the sustainability of the healthcare system, and improving the country’s preparedness for potential epidemics and health emergencies in the future.
