Algiers, January 8, 2026 – The High Security Council convened on Thursday under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to review the national security landscape and define strategic priorities for the year ahead, according to a statement released by the Presidential Office.

Discussions centered on providing a comprehensive assessment of national defense capabilities, analyzing the security situation along Algeria’s borders with neighboring countries, and examining the overall internal security environment.
