Ooredoo Supports “Guenzet Smart City” Project

Ooredoo Algeria has taken a new step by exclusively supporting the GUENZET SMART CITY pilot project in Setif province, acting as a key player in the telecommunications and digital technology sectors.

According to an Ooredoo statement, this initiative is part of its corporate social responsibility program, in partnership with the Algerian company DEO ELECTRONIQUE. The project relies on Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and modern communication technologies, enabling smart and centralized management of equipment and infrastructure while improving the quality of services provided to citizens.

The project is based on a smart infrastructure that allows for centralized and remote management of certain municipal equipment from a control and monitoring room installed at the Guenzet municipal headquarters. Initial operational achievements include a smart system for managing heating and monitoring attendance in schools, a system for controlling and rationalizing public lighting, and a centralized monitoring platform that ensures real-time follow-up, improves response speed, and rationalizes resource and energy use.

The official inauguration of the project took place on Tuesday at the Guenzet municipal headquarters in Setif province, in the presence of the Wali, Mustapha Limani, and the General Manager of Ooredoo Algeria, Roni Tohme, alongside representatives of public bodies and local authorities.

The project is among the first operational smart city and village initiatives linked to the gradual launch of 5G technology in Algeria, aligning with national policies aimed at achieving digital transformation.

On this occasion, Roni Tohme stated: “We are very proud to support the Guenzet Smart City project, which perfectly embodies our vision for the role of 5G in city development.” He added: “Through this pioneering initiative, we demonstrate that 5G technology is not just a technical evolution, but a real lever for improving the daily lives of citizens.”

Through this partnership, Ooredoo Algeria confirms its role as a catalyst for digital innovation and a key player in the launch of 5G technology in Algeria, by leveraging its infrastructure, technological expertise, and strategic vision to serve projects with tangible economic, social, and environmental impacts.
