Algeria’s National Meteorological Office has issued urgent weather warnings for Saturday, cautioning citizens across several wilayas about powerful wind gusts accompanied by intense sandstorms that could severely reduce visibility in affected areas.
An orange-level bulletin warns that the wilayas of Djelfa, M’Sila, Batna, Biskra, Ouled Djellal, M’Ghair, and El Oued will experience strong northwesterly winds reaching speeds between 60 and 70 km/h, potentially exceeding 80 km/h, with heavy sand and dust clouds. The alert runs from 3:00 PM Saturday through 3:00 AM Sunday.
The bulletin also covers the wilayas of Laghouat, Ghardaïa, Taqqart, Ouargla, and El Menia, where westerly to southwesterly winds of 60–70 km/h — possibly surpassing 80 km/h — are expected alongside sandstorms, from midday Saturday until 9:00 PM.
In coastal and central regions, including Tipaza, Algiers, Blida, Boumerdès, Tizi Ouzou, Béjaïa, and Jijel, westerly winds of 60–90 km/h are forecast from Saturday afternoon through 9:00 PM.
A separate yellow-level alert also signals strong winds in additional areas. Authorities urge all citizens to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the warning period.
