Algeria Secures World Cup Knockout Stage Berth After Thrilling Draw Against Austria

The Algerian national football team has advanced to the Round of 16 in the ongoing World Cup after securing a dramatic 3-3 draw against Austria. The crucial Group J match took place early Sunday morning at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Austria took the lead in the 28th minute through Marko Arnautović, who skillfully chipped the ball over Algerian goalkeeper Benbot. Algeria responded with several promising chances, including notable attempts by Belghali and Maza. Farès Chaïbi came close to equalizing in the 39th minute, hitting the post with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.

The Desert Foxes' persistence paid off just before halftime when defender Belghali leveled the score. After a brilliant solo run down the right wing, he fired an unstoppable shot into the net from a tight angle, making it 1-1.

Austria regained the lead early in the second half with a goal from Sabitzer in the 55th minute. However, Algerian playmaker Ryad Mahrez took charge, first equalizing in the 60th minute and then netting a late goal in stoppage time to put Algeria ahead. In a final twist, Austria managed to snatch an equalizer in the 90th+6 minute through Kalajdzic.

With this result, Algeria finishes the group stage with four points, qualifying them for the next round. They are set to face Switzerland in Vancouver on Friday at 04:00. Meanwhile, Austria will play against Spain. In the other Group J match, Argentina confirmed their top position by defeating Jordan 3-1, extending their unbeaten run in the tournament.
