Algeria Successfully Liberates German National Kidnapped in Niger, Demonstrating Regional Security Leadership
Algeria's coordinated security and diplomatic efforts have led to the successful liberation and handover of German national ULUMASKAN SINAN, who was abducted by an armed criminal group in Niger. The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounes Magramane, announced on Monday that the individual, held for approximately two weeks, was safely recovered through the diligent work of Algerian state institutions, particularly the security services of the Ministry of National Defense. This operation underscores Algeria's unwavering commitment to combating violent extremism and criminal acts, including kidnapping, within the region.
Following his release, the German national was received by Algerian army security services last Friday evening. He was transported under optimal conditions from the secondary deployment base in In Guezzam, located in the 6th Military Region, to the Boufarik Air Base. Upon his arrival, Algerian authorities swiftly confirmed his good health and maintained close communication with German officials throughout the process, ensuring all stages of the operation, leading up to his return to his country and family, were transparently managed. The formal handover to German Ambassador to Algeria, Georg Felsheim, was overseen by Mr. Magramane at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Magramane lauded the professionalism of the security services and highlighted Algeria's pivotal role in mediation, dialogue, and consultation, alongside its humanitarian dedication to safeguarding human life and dignity regardless of nationality. This successful operation reinforces Algeria's stance against ransom payments and its effective contribution to the international criminalization of such practices. The German national reportedly expressed profound gratitude to the Algerian military authorities and the high authorities of the country, including President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the efforts that ensured his safe return.
