Sahrawi President Ghali Warns Against Moroccan Policies, Praises Algeria’s Role
Sahrawi President Brahim Ghali, addressing the 14th Summer University for Sahrawi State cadres in Boumerdes, Algeria, issued a strong warning regarding the regional repercussions of what he described as Morocco's expansionist policies. President Ghali highlighted these policies as a significant threat to stability for neighboring countries, explicitly mentioning Spain. He urged the international community to take necessary steps to curb this growing danger to global peace and security.
President Ghali detailed further concerns, pointing to the exploitation of various methods by the "Makhzen system," including what he termed "intensive drug trafficking." He asserted that such activities are used to establish, support, and encourage transnational organized crime gangs and terrorist groups, potentially compromising national sovereignty to external powers. This, he stated, makes Morocco a source of peril for its neighbors, with Spain notably impacted by what Ghali described as the consequences of its past inaction regarding the Sahrawi people's self-determination.
During his address, President Ghali also expressed bewilderment at the European Union's approach to Morocco. He noted the EU's perceived complacency in overlooking international legal violations and its own court rulings, particularly through the signing of agreements that allegedly facilitate the exploitation of resources belonging to an occupied people. Ghali underlined that, by concrete data, Morocco presents a consistent and severe threat to Europe's security, calling on the African Union to uphold its responsibilities in resolving the conflict between the Sahrawi Republic and Morocco in line with its foundational principles.
Significantly, President Ghali extended profound gratitude to Algeria, its government, and its people, for their unwavering support and noble stance alongside the Sahrawi struggle. He characterized Algeria as an inspiring example and a role model for all peoples striving for freedom and dignity, emphasizing its role as a beacon of resistance, steadfastness, and readiness to sacrifice for liberty. Ghali affirmed that the Sahrawi people draw inspiration from Algeria's historical experience, from its victorious war of liberation to its present-day efforts in building a respected new Algeria, as they continue their legitimate struggle for full sovereignty over their national territory.
