Algerian Younes Ayachi Crowned U20 High Jump World Champion

Algerian athlete Younes Ayachi has been crowned the U20 high jump world champion, claiming the gold medal at the category's World Athletics Championships held Saturday in Eugene, United States. Ayachi secured his victory following a highly competitive event, achieving a jump of 2.21 meters. He surpassed India's Basant, who earned the silver medal, and Great Britain's Otis Poole, who took home the bronze.

This world title represents a remarkable progression for the 18-year-old Algerian talent, who had already established a new U20 Algerian record and a personal best of 2.28 meters earlier this year. In Eugene, the young jumper solidified his position as a significant prospect for national athletics, marking one of the most notable achievements of his burgeoning career.

Algeria's participation in these World Championships includes a delegation of 16 athletes, comprising 13 boys and three girls, competing across various track and field disciplines. The nation's ambition for this event is to affirm the momentum of national athletics among its youth and to compete effectively with the world's elite in this age category. Additionally, middle-distance runners Soheib Dissa and Zakaria Touahria were scheduled to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final on Sunday.
