National Squad Qualifies for First Women’s Football World Cup

The Algerian women's national football team has achieved a historic milestone, securing qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil. This marks the team's first-ever participation in the global tournament, a significant accomplishment that follows their notable performance in the recent CAN 2026 continental competition.

During their CAN 2026 campaign, the Algerian squad made an unprecedented run to the semi-finals, a first in the team's history. Despite a 1-3 defeat to Malawi in the semi-final match, which ended their bid for the continental title, midfielder Lina Boussaha acknowledged the group's mixed emotions, emphasizing the overriding positive of World Cup qualification. The team aims to conclude their continental journey by competing for a bronze medal against Morocco before focusing on the upcoming major global event.

This qualification for the 2027 World Cup represents a monumental stride for Algerian women's football. It highlights the progress and capabilities of the national team under coach Farid Benstiti, setting the stage for Algeria to showcase its talent on an international platform for the first time.
