Tiaret Desalinated Water Project Begins August End

Work on a project to provide the wilaya of Tiaret with desalinated drinking water is scheduled to begin by the end of August. Minister of Water, Lounas Bouzegza, announced the initiative during a working and inspection visit to Tiaret, confirming that the supply would originate from a seawater treatment plant located in Mostaganem.

The project involves the connection of Tiaret to the desalinated water supply network, spanning a distance of 250 kilometers. This development is part of broader efforts to implement presidential directives aimed at ensuring the availability of this vital resource by diversifying supply sources and mobilizing significant water quantities. The sector's strategy envisions a national plan extending over 50 years to secure drinking water for residents, as well as for the agricultural and industrial sectors, alongside modern wastewater treatment.

Public companies with demonstrated field expertise will be entrusted with the construction, with an emphasis on rapid execution and delivery. Necessary financial allocations for the project's realization have been secured. Minister Bouzegza also acknowledged Tiaret's significant advancements in stable drinking water provision over the past two years, referencing existing infrastructure such as the Ajarma groundwater field, which supplies 34,000 cubic meters daily and has contributed to the wilaya becoming a model in water management.
