Arab Watermelon Production Led by Algeria, Fourth Globally

Algeria leads Arab nations in watermelon production and holds the fourth position globally, with annual output approaching 2.5 million tons. Agricultural data, sourced from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAOSTAT) database, indicates that Algeria's watermelon production for 2024 is estimated at approximately 2.521 million tons. This figure represents a 1.21 percent increase compared to 2023, when production reached around 2.507 million tons.

The nation's ranking places it among the top five global producers of watermelon, alongside countries such as China, India, Turkey, and Brazil. China significantly leads worldwide production with over 60 million tons, contributing to a global output that exceeded 100 million tons annually, with approximately 104.9 million tons recorded in 2023. Algeria's substantial production volume distinctly positions it ahead of other Arab producers, solidifying its top regional standing.
