Paulo Bento, a Portuguese coach with a notable international career, has become a prominent candidate for the head coach position of the Algerian national football team. He is being considered as a potential successor to Vladimir Petković, with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) reportedly engaging in contact.

Initially, Felix Sanchez was widely considered the most likely candidate; however, sources now suggest Bento is the leading contender. The FAF is said to highly value Bento's extensive experience in managing national teams. His career includes leading the Portuguese national team to the Euro 2012 semifinals and guiding South Korea to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, a campaign that included a victory against his home country, Portugal, in the group stage. Following his tenure with South Korea, Bento also coached the United Arab Emirates national team, demonstrating diverse experience across European and Asian football, including major continental tournaments and World Cups.
