WHO, Algeria Formalize 2026-2027 Health Cooperation Program
Algeria’s Minister of Health, Mohamed Sadiq Ait Massaoudan, and the World Health Organization’s representative in Algeria, Fanuel Habimana, formally signed a cooperation budget program for the 2026-2027 period. The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, also saw the attendance of a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, alongside various Ministry of Health officials.
This program is designed to reinforce the existing partnership between Algeria and the WHO, aiming to enhance cooperation in the health sector. It directly supports efforts to develop the national health system and align with Algeria's identified national health priorities. Key strategic areas outlined within the program include strengthening health systems, advocating for universal health coverage, and implementing measures for the prevention and control of both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Furthermore, the initiative is set to build capabilities in health emergency preparedness and response.
The agreement establishes a framework for technical collaboration, facilitating the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and best practices. This collaborative approach is intended to contribute significantly to national endeavors focused on improving the quality of health services and elevating the overall standard of healthcare and patient management. The signing reflects a mutual commitment from both Algeria and the World Health Organization to continue their joint work, consolidate cooperative ties, and advance national health priorities to achieve shared goals for sustainable health development.
