Jordan Shares Pharmaceutical Control Expertise with Algeria

An official delegation from Algeria's National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products, operating under the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry, recently concluded a visit to the Jordanian Food and Drug Administration (JFDA). The purpose of this visit was to gain insights into Jordan's established expertise in developing a comprehensive system for the registration of chemical and biological medicines, as well as its robust pharmacovigilance practices and adopted regulatory frameworks.

During the two-day visit, the Algerian delegation, which included several specialized technicians, participated in a dedicated training program delivered by experts from JFDA's Drug Directorate. Presentations covered the operational mechanisms and procedures for registering chemical and biological medicines, detailing workflow processes across various departments, approved regulatory and technical procedures, and ongoing electronic transformation initiatives. Dr. Rana Malkawi, Director of the Drug Directorate, provided an overview of the system, while Dr. Shatha Al-Qaraan, Head of the Chemical Medicines Department, focused on chemical medicine registration and acceleration projects.

Professor Dr. Rana Obaidat, Director General of JFDA, highlighted the institution's advanced experience as a national reference for food and drug control. She noted that JFDA has cultivated a knowledge-based institutional model, aligning its drug quality control requirements with global standards. This expertise has contributed to JFDA's membership in the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) and its progress towards World Health Organization accreditation, underscoring the international best practices that Algeria is exploring to enhance its national pharmaceutical control and registration standards.
