Arab Environment Forum Hears Call for Climate Action Unity

Algerian Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kawthar Krikou, underscored the importance of strengthening joint Arab cooperation to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects. Speaking in Cairo during a dialogue session at the fifth Arab Environment Forum, held at the Arab League General Secretariat under the theme “Rangeland Sustainability for Resilience Enhancement,” Minister Krikou noted that environmental challenges facing the Arab world transcend geographical boundaries. This makes Arab cooperation vital for exchanging experiences and developing appropriate solutions.
Minister Krikou showcased Algeria’s ongoing efforts in biodiversity protection and combating land degradation. She reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at safeguarding biodiversity, enhancing Arab cooperation, and facilitating the exchange of expertise. These efforts serve shared objectives in environmental protection and the preservation of natural resources for future generations, demonstrating a comprehensive approach that integrates climate action with biodiversity protection and the fight against land degradation.
Further demonstrating its commitment, Algeria recently deposited its Nationally Determined Contribution with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change last June. Additionally, it submitted its National Strategy and Action Plan to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity for the period 2025-2030. This highlights Algeria's dedication to developing joint Arab programs for monitoring and evaluation, mobilizing financial and technical resources, and reinforcing regional partnerships, while also prioritizing scientific research and innovation.
