WIPO Index Ranks Algerian Education Third Globally

Algeria has secured a prominent position in the 2026 Global Innovation Index (GII), published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), by ranking 3rd globally in the “Education” indicator. This achievement places Algeria among the top nations out of 139 evaluated countries, reflecting a notable progression in its national innovation system. The country also improved its overall GII ranking by four places compared to the 2025 edition.
The nation's performance in education is particularly strong, with Algeria recording a score of 81.2 points in the “Education” indicator, which is linked to the “Human Capital and Research” pillar. Furthermore, Algeria achieved the 2nd global position for indicators related to education expenditure and public funding per student in secondary education. This represents a significant advancement from the 2025 GII, where Algeria was ranked 93rd with a score of 43.2 points.
The GII serves as an international benchmark for assessing the creative and scientific vitality of nations, evaluating the capacity of 139 countries to transform resources into future solutions through over 80 indicators. These indicators span institutional frameworks, research quality, infrastructure, and education funding. The Ministry of National Education has expressed gratitude for the particular attention given to the education sector, emphasizing that such international recognition signals enhanced attractiveness and a successful transition towards a knowledge economy.
