Minister Kouidri Discusses Expanded Pharmaceutical Ties with German Delegation

The Algerian Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Dr. Wassim Kouidri, held discussions with a German delegation on strengthening cooperation and partnership within the pharmaceutical sector. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Pharma 2026 Congress. The German representatives included El Hadi Iskandar, head of the Algerian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, alongside a delegation from the German company Boehringer Ingelheim, led by Derrick O'Leary, General Manager for the India, Middle East, and Africa region. Officials from the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and representatives from the public group Saidal also attended the talks.

The discussions reviewed the current state of pharmaceutical cooperation between Algeria and Germany. A key focus was following up on the implementation of existing agreements between Saidal and Boehringer Ingelheim, particularly those related to localizing the production of innovative medicines in Algeria. The agenda further encompassed the transfer of expertise, knowledge, and technologies, as well as enhancing capabilities in research, development, and innovation to support the domestic pharmaceutical industry.

These efforts are geared towards developing a more robust pharmaceutical industrial system in Algeria, capable of producing high-value-added medicines locally. The meeting also explored prospects for expanding partnerships between Algerian and German operators, identifying new investment and cooperation opportunities that can contribute to the industrial and technological advancement of Algeria's pharmaceutical sector. These initiatives align with the Algerian authorities' commitment to reinforcing health sovereignty, reducing reliance on imports through local production support, localizing modern technologies, and fostering international partnerships in high-value-added areas.
