Emir Abdelkader Film Project Eyes Global Reach with US Partnership

Cultural cooperation between Algeria and the United States is expanding, marked by a recent visit from an American delegation of cinema professionals to Algiers. The public establishment Al Djazairi Production, which is responsible for the major film dedicated to Emir Abdelkader, hosted the delegation at its headquarters in El Achour. The American group included Mike Tankel, an executive expert in entertainment and creative marketing from To Be Continued LLC, Boualem Hassaine, an Algerian actor, director, and producer based in the United States, and John Randolph, a producer in the music and film industry. Julie Sherbill, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Algiers, and Nesroun Bouhil from the Algerian Agency for Cultural Radiance (AARC) also accompanied the delegation.
During the meeting, Salim Aggar, Director General of Al Djazairi Production, presented the key directions of the cinematic project on Emir Abdelkader, emphasizing its artistic, historical, and international dimensions. Discussions centered on the prospects of distributing the future film in the United States and the potential involvement of American professionals, including actors, technicians, and specialists, in various aspects of production and distribution. These exchanges highlighted the importance of accessing international markets for a work focusing on an Algerian historical figure whose journey transcends the strict confines of national history, indicating interest from American professionals in facilitating the film's global reach through partnerships in production, promotion, and distribution.
A subsequent working session was organized by the AARC at Dar Abdelatif in Algiers, bringing together the American delegation with Algerian artists, producers, and other professionals. This session broadened discussions on artistic project development and public access, addressing conditions for cultural project success, production and promotion mechanisms, and the differences between the Algerian cultural market and the American entertainment industry circuits. The dialogues also covered the visibility of the project, its capacity to reach diverse audiences, and its integration into suitable distribution networks. Furthermore, the evolving roles of digital platforms, social networks, and artificial intelligence in marketing, communication, and artistic creation were explored, with professionals acknowledging these technologies as new tools to enhance promotion and facilitate broader public access for cultural works.
