Russia, Algeria Ink Cultural Cooperation Pact Through 2030
The Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts and the Russian Ministry of Culture have signed an executive program for cultural cooperation, setting a framework for collaboration until 2030. This significant agreement was reached during a meeting between Algerian Minister Malika Bendouda and Russian Minister Olga Lyubimova, held on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum in Russia. The program marks a new phase in Algerian-Russian relations, establishing an institutional basis for a range of joint initiatives.
The new program is designed to facilitate shared projects and activities across various cultural and artistic domains, including artistic training, cinema, theater, music, and heritage preservation. It also encompasses mutual cultural events and days, reflecting a shared commitment to elevating cultural and artistic cooperation to a higher level of coordination. This initiative seeks to strengthen communication between cultural and artistic institutions and stakeholders in both countries, thereby reinforcing the bonds of rapprochement between the Algerian and Russian peoples.
Discussions during the ministerial meeting also focused on broader avenues for enhancing cultural and artistic relations and expanding partnership prospects between Algeria and Russia. Both ministers emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral cooperation, particularly in cinema, theater, music, and artistic and academic training. Preparations for the 65th anniversary of Algerian-Russian diplomatic relations in 2027 were also addressed, alongside exploring further development in cinematic cooperation through training, specialized expertise exchange, and documentary film production. Minister Bendouda highlighted the deep historical legacy of cultural and artistic training that unites the two nations, noting that many Algerian elites received their training in Russia and now contribute significantly to Algeria's cultural landscape.
The Russian Minister, Olga Lyubimova, commended the participation of Algerian “culture cadets” children in a cultural forum dedicated to children in Moscow last August. She viewed this participation as a constructive step in strengthening the rapprochement between Algeria and Russia, further underscoring the positive trajectory of their bilateral cultural ties.
