FAF to Address FIFA Ranking Oversight of Invincibility Streak

FIFA's recent update to national team invincibility rankings notably omitted Algeria's 35-match unbeaten run achieved under coach Djamel Belmadi. This streak represented a significant highlight for the Fennecs, who maintained their undefeated status before facing Equatorial Guinea at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were the defending champions. The exclusion of this particular record from the global football body's latest assessment has drawn attention to the criteria used for such classifications.

The 35-match invincibility sequence was a prominent feature of Algerian football during Belmadi's tenure. Prior recognition for the national team's achievements includes an instance in October 2021 when FIFA acknowledged Algeria's 30th consecutive unbeaten match following a victory against Niger. Furthermore, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) had also previously certified Algeria's impressive performance, highlighting its significance within international football history. The updated FIFA list, in contrast, featured other African nations, with Senegal and Morocco noted for 33 matches each in separate periods.

In light of the omission, expectations are now focused on the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) to formally respond. The FAF is anticipated to take action to ensure the recognition of Algeria's historic 35-match invincibility streak. Such a response would aim to uphold the record as a testament to the national team's capabilities and its place in global football achievements.
