Laghouat-Tamanrasset Railway Construction Starts Immediately, Set for 2028

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has ordered the immediate launch of segments for the strategic Laghouat-Tamanrasset railway project. This directive, issued during a Council of Ministers meeting, designates the initiative as a top priority within the public works sector, emphasizing the need for accelerated construction processes. The project aims to enable Algerian citizens to travel by train from the country's north to the "Great South," specifically reaching Tamanrasset, by the end of 2028.
The railway line will encompass sections from Laghouat to Ghardaïa, El Ménéa, and In Salah, extending down to Tamanrasset. This significant infrastructure development is designed to open up the southern regions of the country. Crucially, the African Development Bank has approved financing for the segment spanning from El Ménéa to Tamanrasset, underscoring international support for this national undertaking.
Following the project's advancement, President Tebboune tasked the Minister of Public Works to convey his appreciation and encouragement to the sector's workers, technicians, and engineers. The President recognized their current performance as "heroic by all standards" and noted their proximity to realizing an Algerian dream that has been a long-standing aspiration since independence. The 2028 deadline for the entire project's delivery will allow Algerians to genuinely travel the full length of this vital connection.
