Global Firms Engage in Algeria’s 2026 Energy Bid

State Minister for Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab inaugurated the 14th North Africa Energy and Hydrogen Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC 2026) in Oran, a pivotal event held from October 5-7, 2026. The conference served as a platform to highlight Algeria's robust energy sector and its commitment to fostering international investment and partnerships. During the event, Minister Arkab outlined the timeline for the Algeria Bid Round 2026, announcing that offers are scheduled for presentation in January 2027, with contract signings anticipated by March 2027. This initiative follows the successful Algeria Bid Round 2024, demonstrating a consistent effort to open new investment avenues in a transparent and competitive framework.

The Algeria Bid Round 2026, launched in April by the National Agency for Hydrocarbon Resources Valorization (ALNAFT), has garnered significant international attention, with nearly 60 companies expressing interest and half of them accessing technical data. The deadline for offer submissions is set for November 26, 2026. This strong engagement underscores Algeria's attractiveness as a strategic destination for upstream oil and gas investments, bolstered by its substantial potential, diverse mining areas, established infrastructure, and strategic proximity to key markets. The bidding round proposes seven zones across different regions, offering various contractual models and collectively holding an estimated 1.8 billion barrels of hydrocarbon resources and 8.63 billion cubic meters of gas resources, alongside already discovered reserves. The nation's Hydrocarbons Law No. 19-13 provides an encouraging legal framework for investment, promoting research, exploration, production, and the adoption of modern technologies for enhanced recovery and optimal resource exploitation.

Beyond the Bid Round, Algeria actively pursued strengthened bilateral energy collaborations during the conference. State Minister Arkab engaged in discussions with the UK Ambassador, James Robert Stephen Downer, and a representative from Clarke Energy, focusing on expanding cooperation in hydrocarbon exploration, development, and emissions reduction through technology transfer and associated gas valorization. Similarly, the Dutch Ambassador, Anne Elizabeth Veraa, reiterated her country's commitment to a broader energy partnership with Algeria, specifically exploring opportunities in hydrogen, renewable energies, and clean technologies. These meetings, alongside other agreements overseen by Minister Arkab involving key Algerian entities and international partners such as Eni and PTTEP, underscore Algeria's efforts to enhance technical exchanges and attract global companies, solidifying its position in the energy and hydrogen domains.
