Spanish-Algerian Pacts Improve Red Meat Sector Logistics

Two cooperation agreements concerning the red meat sector were signed on Monday in Algiers between Algerian and Spanish entities during a bilateral meeting themed "Unifying Markets, Strengthening the Sector." The first agreement involved the Algerian Red Meat Company (ALVIAR) and the Spanish professional organizations Interovic and Provacuno. The second agreement was signed by the same two Spanish organizations and the National Syndicate of Red Meat Importers.
Mohamed Rezgui, CEO of ALVIAR, a subsidiary of the AgroLog group, stated that the framework agreement with the Spanish organizations aims to strengthen information and expertise exchange, improve animal breeds, and foster cooperation in logistics. Sofiane Bahbou, spokesperson for the National Syndicate of Red Meat Importers, added that the partnership with Spanish operators will contribute to enhancing their presence in Algeria, particularly in modernizing slaughterhouses and developing intensive livestock farming in the southern region through technology and expertise. This collaboration supports measures taken by the AgroLog group, in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and pursuant to presidential directives, to meet national demand, including preparations for Ramadan to avoid supply shortages.
Spain's Ambassador to Algeria, Ramiro Fernandez Bachiller, expressed his country's interest in developing sustainable bilateral cooperation in the livestock sector, moving beyond commercial exchanges. Spain is Algeria's primary supplier of red meat, and Algeria represents the main destination for Spanish beef exports outside the European Union, as noted by Cristina A. Olazabal Valiente, the Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Spanish Embassy. The meeting concluded with bilateral discussions between Algerian and Spanish economic operators to explore further opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the red meat sector.
