Surveillance Cameras Key in Algiers Police Criminal Gang Bust

Algiers security services have successfully dismantled a criminal gang specializing in targeting bank clients, a significant operation conducted as part of the ongoing fight against various forms of criminality. The major crimes brigade of the third judicial police district in El Biar led the effort, which heavily relied on the exploitation of surveillance camera footage to identify and track suspects involved in these illicit activities within the capital.
The criminal network operated by observing individuals at banking establishments, aiming to seize their money and belongings after they made transactions. According to reports from the Algiers Wilaya Security communication unit, the suspects would proceed to damage victims' vehicles to access the money and valuables left inside. Precise technical data derived from surveillance images and other intelligence proved instrumental in allowing judicial police officers to pinpoint the perpetrators of these criminal acts.
The operation culminated in the arrest of two individuals, including the primary suspect, following procedures conducted under the supervision of the territorially competent public prosecutor. Authorities also secured several key pieces of evidence, including three remote-control devices specifically used to jam vehicles from a distance, three tourist vehicles, and a quantity of 409 capsules of Pregabalin-type psychotropic substances. This successful interdiction reflects the capabilities of Algerian law enforcement in maintaining public safety and order.
Upon the completion of legal procedures, the two apprehended individuals were subsequently presented before the public prosecutor at the Chéraga court, in accordance with the established criminal procedure file. This action underscores the commitment to bringing those engaged in criminal enterprises to justice and ensuring the security of citizens in Algiers.
