COSIDER Completes Constantine Tramway Repair for January Reopening

The Constantine tramway line is scheduled to resume full operation in January, connecting the Ben Abdelmalek Ramadan station to the new city of Ali Mendjeli. This comes after the successful completion of necessary repair work to address ground subsidence affecting a section of the railway adjacent to Mentouri Brothers University.
The Algerian company COSIDER, specializing in construction and public works, was entrusted with the repair of the degraded railway section between the Palma and Khezendar stations near Constantine University 1. This intervention followed the termination of a contract with a previous contractor by SETRAM, the company responsible for operating and maintaining Algeria's tramway networks, in September. The Ministry of Transport intervened to assign COSIDER to the project, with the company commencing site work to restore the line.
The tramway line, spanning 22 kilometers and connecting four universities across Constantine, is a crucial public transport service for the province. It has recorded a significant increase in passenger capacity, reaching 23.7 million travelers annually, making it the primary mode of transport in the region. Plans are also in place for a future extension of approximately 5 kilometers, from Constantine University 2 towards the Western Extension, specifically neighborhood unit 21 in the Ain Smara municipality.
