Senegal, Algeria Relaunch Ties with 15 Cooperation Accords

The sixth session of the Algerian-Senegalese joint cooperation commission recently concluded in Algiers, co-chaired by Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and his Senegalese counterpart, Sheikh Niang. This pivotal meeting marked the official relaunch of bilateral cooperation between the two nations, occurring nearly thirty years after the previous session in Dakar. The commission successfully culminated in the signing of 15 agreements and memoranda of understanding, underscoring a renewed commitment to enhancing their partnership.
Minister Attaf emphasized the critical importance of this re-engagement, stressing the shared responsibility to build upon the historical foundation of bilateral relations to forge a more dynamic and sustainable partnership. The signed agreements are set to invigorate cooperation and expand areas of mutual interest, aligning with the directives issued by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. This initiative is designed to inaugurate a new phase of collaboration that more effectively addresses the collective interests of both Algeria and Senegal.
The newly established frameworks encompass a wide array of vital sectors, including investment, energy, mining, industry, agriculture, air transport, and finance. Furthermore, cooperation extends to human resource development and the reinforcement of cultural bonds, covering areas such as higher education, media, youth and sports, justice, culture, and women's empowerment. Algeria considers Senegal a brotherly country and an indispensable partner within West Africa, highlighting the strategic significance of these revitalized diplomatic and economic ties.
