Oran Prepares to Host African Olympiad of Skills in November

Oran is preparing to host the African Olympiad of Skills from November 16 to 19, an event slated to run under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The Minister of Vocational Training and Education, Nassima Arhab, recently visited Oran for a working and inspection tour. During her visit, Minister Arhab, accompanied by Governor Brahim Ouchane, held a coordination meeting with local and security authorities to review ongoing preparations and ensure the organizational and logistical success of this continental gathering.
This edition holds particular significance as it extends Algeria's experience in organizing skills Olympiads, with the first edition having been an Algerian initiative. The current Olympiad is being organized in coordination with the African Union, reflecting a strategic move to broaden its scope and enhance its continental dimension. The event aims to serve as a comprehensive platform for African competencies and skills, featuring professional competitions, meetings for concerned African ministers, and high-level lectures to foster an exchange of visions and expertise on the future of vocational training, skill development, and aligning training systems with economic and technological transformations and labor market demands.
The preparations underscore Algeria's efforts to ensure optimal conditions for the event's success, projecting the nation's expertise in vocational training and education. This initiative solidifies Algeria's role in supporting African endeavors aimed at developing skills and promoting competencies across the continent. The event is positioned to reflect Algeria's commitment to fostering a skilled workforce and contributing to regional development through educational initiatives.
During her visit to Oran, Minister Arhab also inaugurated the 'Mujahida Zaanane Yamina' Center of Excellence for the automotive industry in Belgaïd, east of Oran. This state-of-the-art facility features advanced pedagogical structures, including 20 equipped classrooms and six specialized technical workshops for electronics, mechatronics, and automotive system maintenance. The center also includes lecture halls, an entrepreneurship development center, and accommodation with a capacity of 120 beds, currently providing training for approximately 300 individuals, with plans to expand to 500 trainees by 2027 under the guidance of 25 pedagogical staff members.
