Five Arrested in El Tarf Human Trafficking Bust

The Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) of the El Tarf provincial judicial police has successfully dismantled a criminal network engaged in maritime migrant trafficking. The operation led to the apprehension of five individuals suspected of belonging to the network, according to a statement from security services. This action underscores the vigilance and effectiveness of Algerian law enforcement in combating organized crime.
The successful operation represents the culmination of an ongoing investigation that followed an earlier attempt to thwart illegal maritime migration. That prior incident involved nine individuals and was conducted in coordination with the Guellel maritime coast guard unit, under the direct supervision of the Public Prosecutor at the Guellel Court.
Investigations led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, who originate from various municipalities within El Tarf province. During the operation, security forces seized a maritime vessel and a 75-horsepower engine. Additionally, equipment utilized for illegal sea voyages and mobile phones suspected of being employed in the criminal activities were confiscated.
All arrested individuals have been presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Guellel Court. They face charges related to migrant trafficking, specifically for orchestrating illegal departures from national territory in exchange for financial gain.
