El Eulma Plant Exports Electric Vehicle Chargers to Europe

The Société Algérienne des Industries Électriques et Gazières (SAIEG), a subsidiary of the Sonelgaz group, is preparing a new delivery of electric vehicle charging stations to Italy. By the end of October or the first days of November, 250 units are scheduled to depart Algeria. This shipment concludes a commercial agreement for 450 units, following an initial delivery of 200 charging stations to Portugal in July, which marked the first phase of the contract.

These electric vehicle charging stations are manufactured at production lines located in El Eulma, in the wilaya of Sétif. The announcement regarding the upcoming export to Italy was made by Youcef Defdaf, CEO of SAIEG. This development contributes to a shift in the commercial relationship with Italy, where bilateral trade traditionally featured Algerian hydrocarbons and Italian industrial equipment, indicating a growing diversification of Algerian industrial exports.

The export of green technology products aligns with a broader national effort to reduce reliance on oil and gas revenues and expand Algeria's presence in international markets. SAIEG's export activities extend beyond charging stations, with contracts also signed for gas turbine blades and electrical equipment kits destined for an American company. Such operations, including previous exports of automotive batteries from Aïn M’lila to Cameroon, progressively enhance the industrial credibility of the country across African, Asian, and European markets.
