Nation Becomes Second-Largest French Gasoline Supplier

Algeria has positioned itself as the second-largest supplier of gasoline to France, a development attributed to substantial investments in its refining infrastructure. Data for the first half of 2026 indicates that Algerian refined products accounted for 13.1% of France's total gasoline consumption during this period, signifying a successful strategic shift from primarily exporting crude oil to higher-value refined petroleum.
This achievement places Algeria notably in the French market, behind only the Netherlands, which supplied 48% of the total imports. Other significant contributors include Italy and the United States, each accounting for 5.1% of France's gasoline imports. This move into refined product exports demonstrates the nation's growing industrial capabilities and its commitment to diversifying its energy trade.
The figures, communicated by the Professional Petroleum Committee (CPDP) and published by Ufip Énergies et Mobilités, and subsequently reported by Le Figaro, underscore Algeria's enhanced role in meeting European energy demands. The successful development of its refining sector allows Algeria to expand its export portfolio and capitalize on the global market for refined fuels.
